Holger (ホルガー, Horugā^?) is a minor character in Beastars. He works as a tattooist near the Black Market, and is the one who does all of Melon's tattoos.

Appearance

Holger is an adult sloth of medium height and slightly stout physique. His fur is rough with light spots on his face and dark spots around his eyes and ears. He has small, beady eyes, a long and thick neck and a rounded head. He shows a permanent and wide smile that gives him a somewhat meek or silly expression. His arms and legs are covered in tattoos with the body of a snake covering both his arm, and his arm has a tattoo that says 機敏 (kibin, agility^?), and his calves have a black stripe design. He has long claws protruding from his fingers.

He wears a casual outfit consisting of a white tank top, slightly rolled up, light-colored pants, and white socks.

Personality

He always has a happy and care-free demeanor, even when threatened. Like a typical sloth, he moves slowly and his co-workers make jokes regarding his slowness. He has a delayed reaction when it comes to conversations and responds to Melon's words about 12 hours later.

• Enough animals have died from blood loss due to Holger's slow tattoos that the other animals in the shop call him a "psychopathic killer."
• Holger is a Scandinavian name derived from the Old Norse name Hólmgeirr, a compound of hólmr meaning "island" and geirr meaning "spear".
• Holger is the second known herbivore to work on the Black Market, after Cosmo, albeit in a seemingly less dangerous area.
• In the bonus content for Volume 16, it is revealed that Holger realized that Legoshi was watching him, but did not say anything this time after he left.
