The Yolk Forever in Our Heart (心に永遠の卵黄を, Kokoro ni eien no ran'ō wo?) is Chapter 155 of the manga Beastars written and illustrated by Paru Itagaki, published in the Weekly Shōnen Champion of the Akita Shoten publishing house.[1]

Synopsis[]

In memory, Louis reveals to Bill that he will be the next head of the drama club. Bill surprised as well as happy by the news. He asks for the reason and Louis responds, but his words are not heard.

A month after Louis graduated, Bill hangs out with his girlfriend without being able to remember what words Louis said to him and without understanding why he made him the club boss, Bill says goodbye to his girlfriend to take care of his president duties.

In the carnivore dorm kitchen, Bill feels that he is not suited for the job and thinks that Louis gave him the position to annoy him. While preparing soba, Bill does not consider himself righteous like Aoba, attractive like Pina and even strong like Legoshi. Cracking open an egg, Bill discovers a small premature chick and suffers a great shock. He knew he came across a shock egg, a fertilized egg that was mixed into a batch of unfertilized eggs. Seeing that he is alone, Bill wonders if it is allowed to eat that and realizes that the chick will die anyway. He almost gives in to his wishes, but is interrupted by Pina who appears claiming this is the first time he has seen a shock egg, and asks Bill if he will eat it. Bill, alarmed, asks him what he is doing there, and Pina replies that since the herbivore dorm kitchen was full, he came to this one. Pina tells Bill that he if he wants to eat the chick, he will stand there and watch it, and maybe he will learn something. Pina makes a comparison with Bill and Riz, saying that Riz is now in juvie because he ate his classmate and Bill can now eat a baby, but can carry on living a peaceful school life, claiming that this world is unfair. Bill yells at him, telling him that he is not going to eat it, so Pina proposes to save it. Although Bill claims it is too late for that, Pina declares that they should try.

After putting the chick in a thermos in the club warehouse and unable to get help from the infirmary, they have the idea to enlist the help of Aoba whose warmth and presence seem to keep the chick in good spirits. Pina asks Bill if it is great that now they had the opportunity to save the baby, causing Bill to feel an increasing pain. After seeing the chick get better, he feels more guilty, but decides to devote himself. Having the chick in his hands, Bill apologizes to him but does not tell him why, claiming that some things are better left unknown. Bill declares that sometimes he feels scared of himself, but the chick does not seem to be scared of him. Bill manages to remember Louis' words in a dream - that because felines are not bad at all, they are just dumb.

A week after the chick hatched, Bill, Pina and Aoba take it to a police station where they give it to an officer. Bill makes sure to remember his face and Pina questions him, saying that he will not recognize him anyway when he turns into a chicken, but Bill claims that this is not the issue. Aoba declares that Bill should stop going to the Black Market for now, so Bill states that he will never eat chicken meat. Pina proposes to go eat soba for lunch, but Bill claims that he will not eat soba either.

Bill is making the first steps toward becoming a real man as the drama club president (probably).
