Wipe Off Your Drool Before Saying Sweet Nothings (愛の言葉はヨダレを拭いてから, Ai no kotoba wa yodare wo fuite kara?) is Chapter 147 of the manga Beastars written and illustrated by Paru Itagaki, published in the Weekly Shōnen Champion of the Akita Shoten publishing house.[1]

Synopsis[]

While holding Haru, Melon wonders if he should follow his instincts and slide his hands all over her body. Experimenting with his new instincts, Melon reaches down and proceeds to grope Haru's body into a hug. A nervous Haru remembers the first time she met Legoshi, so when noticing a carnivorous nature in Melon, Haru turns away from him and asks what his species is. Melon is surprised that Haru cares more about his species than the fact that he groped her. Haru explains and points out that Melon held her like a carnivore would hold an herbivore, and not like a male would hold a female. Melon claims to be a gazelle, pointing to his antlers, which have deceived everyone. No matter how many predations he commits, the police always leave him alone after they question him. His herbivore antlers serve as an identification too strong to be considered mere decorations, with Haru being the first to doubt his decorations. After thinking it over, Haru thinks that Melon is not a carnivore and wasn't trying to eat her or anything, so Melon only hugged her like a female. Haru states that she hasn't been involved in love affairs in a long time, and she is already in love with another guy. Melon faces this rejection by pulling out a cutter from his pocket and stabbing his own leg, terrifying Haru. Melon declares that for the first time his heart hurts much more than the pain, implying that Haru "broke her heart."

At Kopi Luwak, Deshico explains that pain and violence are a means to which carnivore-herbivore hybrids use to experience pleasure, since most of them lack appetite and sexual drive, which is why Melon's body is so deprived. Louis understands everything and points out how delicious Kopi Luwak is as long as you forget where it came from. Deshico claims that bodily-produced food used to be treasured as a substitute for meat before the war. Louis assumes that it must have been a very peaceful time if coffee was enough to satisfy the carnivores, since nowadays they know what meat tastes like. After noticing Legoshi and the Shishigumi crouching, Louis asks them to give their thought about their coffee. They all claim that it was good, looking very nervous, so Louis approaches them to see what is going on with them. They all back away from him, covering their mouths and telling Louis not to approach them. Deshico reveals he forgot to mention that for modern-day carnivores who know what meat tastes like, Kopi Luwak is a stimulant that partially satiates their appetite, so if they drank the coffee, their appetite will be violently stimulated by the appearance of raw flesh. After Louis removes the carnivores' hands and discovers their saliva-spilling mouths, all it took was one cup to scrape off the skin of modern-day carnivores. Being under the effects of Kopi Luwak, Dolph comments how delicious Louis looks, so in order to control themselves Dolph and Legoshi headbutt and proceed to fight to contain their appetite. By seeing the carnivores helping each other to relieve their stimulus, Deshico comments that this era's carnivores are really valuable, adding that maybe they all have what it takes to take down Melon.

After finishing their meeting with Deshico, they all leave the Black Market bruised while Louis reflects on the information he obtained about Melon. He deduces that since Melon has a PhD in history, he must know the hidden history, which could mean that he hates it. Louis is sure that hybrids were persecuted after the war, and wonders if the Shishigumi will understand if he tells them all about it. They insist on being dismissed for the night so as not to risk Louis's life. Louis insists that they are supposed to be working together, but Legoshi agrees with the Shishigumi because they need to get away from him for now, as they don't want to think that he looks delicious. Louis declares that the relationship between carnivores and herbivores is very difficult to manage and leaves.

Later, Legoshi returns by train to Beast Apartments, adding that the relationship between carnivores and herbivores is uniquely difficult for carnivores, since carnivores are powerless and pathetic. Still being under the influence of Kopi Luwak, Legoshi comments how it feels like his meat withdrawal after he ate Louis's foot. He concludes that a hybrid being born by the union of a carnivore and an herbivore is an agony similar to his act of predation. Upon reaching Beast Apartments, Legoshi intends to get to his room without touching a single herbivore and go to be. However, this plan is thwarted by Haru, who has been waiting for Legoshi outside his room for some time and asks to stay with him for the night.
