Beastars Wiki

In the Lingering Summer Heat (残暑 各々に散らばって, Zansho onōno ni chirabatte?) is Chapter 48 of the manga Beastars written and illustrated by Paru Itagaki, published in the Weekly Shōnen Champion of the Akita Shoten publishing house.[1]

Synopsis[]

It is the end of summer. Legoshi and Jack clean up and prepare to attend their summer classes. Jack is overwhelmed, because he does not know how to deal with Legoshi having lost his virginity (which he did not actually do) and he avoids asking about it, attributing that his recent maturity is due to the fact that he slept with Haru, with whom they coincidentally meet, without stopping and exchange greetings and say goodbye. Very casually, Jack is alarmed to see her for the first time, causing him to be alarmed and call Legoshi perverted for speaking to Haru so casually. Haru looks at the newspaper that says that Louis is still missing.

Meanwhile, Aoba, Bill and Els go to the drama club, forgetting that the club's activities had been suspended for seven months. The trio laughs at their mistake and Els thanks Bill for a manga that he lend her and say goodbye. Bill asks Aoba for money to buy some drinks from the vending machine, so they can share a drink. Aoba reprimands Bill for being friends with an herbivore (referring to Els). Bill attributes that this is due to Black Market affair. Bill declares that he appreciates Els for her good looks, personality, and likes her as a friend, and demonstrates his disgust at being labeled by Aoba as a "herbivore". Aoba claims that Bill had eaten that old man's finger in the market and Bill replies that he did it for himself and his environment, which Bill declares that Aoba should understand. Aoba takes a newspaper out of Bill's backpack and claims that he is not entirely sincere as Bill seems concerned about Louis. Although Bill denies it at first, he reveals that he was only doing what he wanted because of Louis continuing to stomp on him and because of Louis's abrasive personality and arrogance. Bill reveals that he was glad when he found out that Louis had disappeared. He states that without Louis he is alone, a villain, and declares that he is afraid of what may happen in the future. Bill tries to erase his moment of weakness by claiming that he was only joking, and asks Aoba how much the drink he bought him cost him to return the money. Aoba tells him to take it as a gift, showing empathy for Bill.

Back with Jack and Legoshi, Jack ask Legoshi what happened to him this summer, to which Legoshi says he couldn't eat any watermelons and asks Jack if he wants to go shopping with him, showing a warm smile. Jack accepts and they leave together.
